With #EqualPayDay this week, we reflected on the role that gender plays in our professional and cultural lives. Here are a few tweets and articles that made us think about women’s rights around the country, plus one about the rights of those who identify outside of the traditional male/female binary.

I was currently working on a construction site as a iron worker, doing the exact same thing that men were doing. It is a shame to say that there is still people who hire people or don't hire people based on their sex!! It made me so made when I had this happen to me, it made me feel like I'm not equal to a man and it is not fair at all!!!!!! I had many people say that I did better work that the guys, I was used as a example to go employee's of a good hard worker.

What unmitigated baloney. I am a man and have worked for 38 years and taken a total of FIVE days off for illness. I elected NOT to have children and devoted myself to my career. I did NOT major in Sociology, History, Gender Studies, Art, Literature, Early Childhood Development, Fashion Design, Philosophy or Psychology. I get paid what I get paid because I made my career my #1 priority. I get paid what I get paid because my employeer KNOWs my value and KNOWs I will be here everyday PRODUCING products and services unless I die or retire. If any woman matches my education, drive, skills and devotion to the job then she will be paid exactly the same pay I make BECAUSE the pay scale for my gender non-specific position is published on line for all to see.
