Avvo Offers Physicians an Easy Way to Engage Patients and Encourage Them to Fill Out an Online Review

Avvo Will Donate $5 to the Melanoma Research Foundation for Every Doctor Review Posted to its Site during National Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May

Seattle, Wash — Avvo (www.avvo.com), the world’s largest online ratings directory for doctors and lawyers, today encouraged physicians to reach out and invite their satisfied patient base to fill out a review of their services on Avvo – and simultaneously help benefit melanoma and skin cancer prevention in support of this month’s National Skin Cancer Awareness Month.  For every doctor review posted by a patient during the month of May, Avvo will donate $5 to the Melanoma Research Foundation (www.melanoma.org), the largest independent, national organization devoted to melanoma research, prevention and treatment in the U.S.

Avvo is a great resource for information and free advice from the medical community regarding skin care and skin cancer prevention and treatment.  The site, which contains ratings and profiles for 90 percent of licensed doctors in the U.S., offers detailed information about a doctor’s background, experience and disciplinary record, as well as an editorial Avvo Rating for every doctor, and patient and peer ratings – all in one place.  Avvo also offers physicians a number of quick and easy ways to effectively reach their current and prospective patient base, including the opportunity for doctors to participate for free in a question and answer forum on Avvo.com and also contribute to Avvo’s Health Guides (free research tools, written as how-to articles covering everyday issues authored by certified doctors).

The company is hoping that all doctors – especially those in the skin care field, such as dermatologists and plastic surgeons – will jump on board and use this informative campaign as way to spread the word among patients about skin cancer prevention and also build their own credibility and online credentials through Avvo.com.  Avvo is widely recognized as the gold standard for collecting and managing online reviews – and doctors from every specialty field can use the campaign as a conduit for inviting those patients whom they know are highly satisfied with their performance to share their positive experiences online with other prospective patients.

Avvo advises doctors to ask patients to fill out an online review, either at the close of the office visit or by handing out an information card as the patient is leaving. Once on the Avvo site, patients simply search for a doctor by name and then rate their interaction across several variables and submit a written review about their experience.  Once the review has been approved by Avvo, it will become part of the doctor’s profile on the site.

About the Melanoma Research Foundation
The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1996 by Diana Ashby, a melanoma patient who was frustrated by the ineffectiveness of current medical treatments for melanoma and wanted to make a difference.  Since Diana’s death, the MRF has grown into the largest independent, national organization devoted to melanoma in the United States. The MRF is dedicated to funding medical research for finding effective treatments and eventually a cure. The MRF strives to educate patients and physicians about the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of melanoma; and is an advocate for the melanoma community to raise the awareness of this disease and the need for a cure.
