Avvo Increases Lawyer Database to include Virginia Attorney Profiles

World's largest online source of legal information covers 90% of the attorneys in the United States

Seattle, Wash — Avvo, Inc. (www.avvo.com), the only free website that empowers consumers to handle their legal matters with confidence, announced today the availability of profiles and ratings for every licensed attorney in Virginia. With this release, Avvo now covers 90% of the licensed attorneys in the United States.

As a result of this expansion, people in Virginia have more information and better guidance to find the right lawyer in their area. In addition, they can utilize Avvo Answers, a free question and answer forum, to post specific questions – anonymously if desired – about Virginia legal issues, and receive personalized answers from attorneys practicing in the state.

“We’re thrilled to introduce the benefits of Avvo to people in Virginia. Since our launch two years ago, Avvo’s mission has been to help consumers navigate the complex, and often-times intimidating, legal industry. Whether simply researching a legal issue, seeking advice or looking for the right lawyer, Avvo is a trusted and easy to use resource that will get you the information you need to make wise choices,” said Mark Britton, Founder and CEO of Avvo. “Likewise, lawyers in Virginia will now have the opportunity to join the thousands of other active attorneys on the website who are using their free Avvo profile to set themselves apart from the competition and reach new clients. By bringing more lawyers and consumers together, the community becomes that much more powerful. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Avvo profiles are aggregated from public records provided by the state bar and additional attorney licensing entities. Profiles include the Avvo Rating – a sophisticated and responsible system that evaluates the lawyers’ background, body of work and disciplinary records. Avvo also displays client reviews submitted by consumers and peer endorsements submitted by attorneys.

Attorneys can claim their Avvo profiles on their own or via Avvo’s “Firm Claim” feature that allows multi-lawyer law firms to claim their lawyers’ profiles in one easy step. After claiming their profiles, attorneys or their administrators can update the Avvo profiles with as much information as they want, as often as they want. They can also endorse other lawyers in their network, participate in Avvo Answers and post legal guides specific to their practice area. Claiming an Avvo profile enables attorneys to further enhance their visibility and reputation online to attract new clients.
