Washington CEO Publishes Its First “Top Lawyers” List with Avvo as Partner

June Issue uses Avvo to rank top Washington lawyers across 21 categories including Corporate, Mergers/Acquisitions and Employment

Seattle, WashWashington CEO magazine, the state’s leading business magazine, announced a new partnership with Avvo® to provide Washington CEO Magazine’s annual “Top Lawyers” list in the June 2008 issue, available on newsstands May 30. The overall rankings will appear in the magazine’s June issue and on each company’s website: www.washingtonceo.com  and www.avvo.com.

Washington CEO magazine’s list of Washington’s top lawyers is a testament to the high number of quality attorneys practicing across Washington in firms of every size, representing plaintiffs or defendants,” said Mark Britton, CEO and President of Avvo. “Our research offers businesses valuable information and better guidance in choosing the right attorney and handling your legal matters appropriately.”

“We are pleased to be able to provide our readers with a carefully researched ranking of attorneys in the state,” said Bob Ritter, Washington CEO publisher. “Our readers across the state rely on us for accurate and reliable information, especially when it comes to making critical business decisions.”

The Top Lawyer rankings are based on the Avvo® Rating, which is Avvo’s evaluation of a lawyer’s background. The rating is calculated using a mathematical model that considers the information shown in a lawyer’s profile, including a lawyer’s years in practice, disciplinary history, professional achievements and industry recognition.

For 2008, 210 Washington attorneys made the list of top lawyers in 21 categories:  Admiralty/Maritime, Banking, Bankruptcy, Biotechnology, Communications/Media, Contracts, Corporate, Employee Benefits, Environmental, Employment/Labor, Energy/Utilities, Financial Markets and Services, Health Care, Intellectual Property, Internet, Licensing, Mergers/Acquisitions, Real Estate, Securities Offerings, Tax and Venture Capital.

While the Top Lawyers issue highlights 210 top Washington lawyers, Avvo rates and profiles every Washington lawyer.  Avvo also offers client ratings, peer ratings, legal guides, and a question and answer forum (“Avvo Answers”) where people can ask real attorneys – anonymously if desired – any legal question and receive personalized answers.

Attorneys can claim their Avvo Profiles for free individually or via Avvo’s “Firm Claim” feature, which allows multi-lawyer law firms to claim their lawyers’ profiles in one easy step.  After claiming their profiles, attorneys or their administrators can update the Avvo Profiles with as much information as they want, as often as they want. They can also endorse other lawyers and participate in Avvo Answers. Claiming an Avvo Profile enables attorneys to further enhance their visibility and reputation online to attract new clients.

Avvo is currently available in 13 states and the District of Columbia, and covers approximately 65 percent of licensed attorneys across the country. Additional states will be added throughout the year.
