Avvo takes second place at Geekwire Bash dodgeball tourney

After battling it out with Tune during the final round, Avvo took second place in the Geekwire Bash’s Dodgeball Tournament. The Bash took place at the CenturyLink Event Center/Wamu Theater where roughly 1,500 people from the Seattle tech community came together for some friendly competition, networking, and beer.

Team Avvo held a couple of practice sessions at the Ballard Community Center to get ready. “There were dodgeball team elites at the Community Center, and we played with the traditional rubber balls, like in the Dodgeball movie, instead of the foam balls that were given at the event,” said Vivian Ta. “Needless to say, they were a lot more painful if you got one thrown directly at you.”

Samantha Bergland was the the last player standing for Avvo in the semi-final round, taking Avvo into the Final round. Avvo’s runner-up team was the only one at the Bash with an equal number of women and men, and was comprised of Abigail Carlson (Sales), Chris Luong (Sales), Matthew Richardson (Sales), Samantha Bergland (Sales), Alex Ross (Software Developer), Caroline Anderson (Data Acquisition Technician), Vivian Ta (Dev Ops Engineer) and William Rowley (Sales).

Avvo was also a sponsor at Geekwire Bash for the first time. “We may be in the legal industry, but we’re truly a tech company,” said Jess McMahon, event manager for Avvo. “It was so much fun to be part of this event, alongside other companies with a similar vibe and culture to ours.”

The Bash included “dodgeball, basketball, video games, beer pong, cornhole, sumo wrestling, March Madness, massages, and of course, action-packed sold-out ping pong and foosball tournaments,” as reported by Taylor Soper of Geekwire. With Team Avvo’s inspiring second place finish in dodgeball, we’ve definitely got our eyes on additional team-oriented tournaments at the Bash for 2017.

Until next year! We’ll be practicing.
